School Vision, Ethos and Values

BACON GARTH VALUES

Every child deserves the best possible education and environment and to thrive and prosper, no matter their background or circumstances. Those beliefs sit at the heart of Bacon Garth’s ethos. We go the extra mile to ensure equal opportunities - for all. This means delivering access to all aspects of the curriculum and school activities. It also means making Bacon Garth a truly inclusive community, where every child aims high and achieves their goals and where they develop self-confidence, positive values, wellbeing and empathy.  Every day, we work to create a friendly, calm and purposeful environment - one that offers security and opportunities for personal growth. That’s why we’re constantly striving to be at the forefront of educational best practice. And it’s why we aim to ensure that our children can access the latest developments in technology and education. It's our ambition to be a truly ‘Healthy School’ and to instil a lifelong love of learning. We aim to ensure that our children are prepared and properly equipped to make effective, positive decisions as they journey through their lives.

The Bacon Garth pupils tell us that this is why they love their school:

  • We are all included
  • Everyone is made to feel special and valued
  • Our lessons are exciting and the teachers make it fun to learn
  • We respect and understand one another

The School’s Place in the Community

The School is pleased to foster good links with the Community. We regularly welcome Work Experience students from Cottingham High School and other local schools to come and work with us and we believe this has a positive impact on both the school and the students. Parents are kept informed of events and information about the school through regular newsletters from the Headteacher. We welcome visitors to school from all sections of the community and are always pleased that they enjoy their time with us. The school fosters links with other schools through joint teacher training sessions and “sharing good practice” visits, and continues to develop sporting links between other local schools. The school takes part in a range of community link activities, from carol singing at the hospital and residential homes to distributing harvest gifts in the community

British Values

The Government states that schools are required to ensure that they promote fundamental British values. It defines the five core values as:

  • Respect for Democracy
  • Respect for the Rule of Law
  • Support for Individual Liberty
  • Mutual Respect and equality of opportunity for all
  • Tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs

At Bacon Garth, we are proud that our school ethos, culture and environment enable children to develop and grow into caring, tolerant, respectful, thoughtful, independent, open-minded and responsible young people who are prepared and well- equipped to make a positive difference to their community, British society and the wider world. Bacon Garth serves a predominantly white British community, but through our curriculum, our ethos and our provision, we ensure that no group or individual is discriminated against regardless of their faith, sexuality, ethnicity, gender or family and financial status.
