Investors in Pupils

At Bacon Garth we have been busy working towards the renewal of the Investors in Pupils (IIP) award, which we initially achieved in 2018.

The IIP award helps pupils better understand their school, the staff and the school budget. IIP supports pupils by setting individual and class targets, helping children understand how staff can help them, how the school spends its money and also how they, as pupils, can make a difference.

Individual and class targets serve as a useful reminder to pupils about what they need to do to help them do well at school.

We have introduced a Friendship Buddy scheme whereby our nominated Friendship Buddies make sure that all children are happy and have someone to play with on the playground.

We now have around fifty young first aiders too, who have undergone training over the years. They support our adult first aiders around the school in dealing with some of the first aid in school and this will be another great opportunity for our children to take on additional responsibility and grow in maturity.

Our IIP committee consists of four year six pupils: Chloe, the head girl (Junior First Aiders), Harry, the head boy (Friendship and Wellbeing), Angela, the deputy head girl (Behaviour) and Elliot, the deputy head boy (Finance). This new IIP committee is planning to meet governors at the end of November to explain more about their role.

As part of an IIP initiative to give pupils more roles and responsibilities, some of our year 6 pupils have been designing and delivering PowerPoint presentations in assemblies which has been impressive to see!

In the summer term, Noah Jacklin presented a brilliant assembly about the 80 year commemoration of the D Day landings.

More recently, as part of our Harvest Festival celebrations, Angela, Noureen, Sophia, Brodie, Elliot and Dominic gave a very informative PowerPoint presentation about Harvest around the World.

Elliot Dry, our IIP Junior Finance Officer, delivered his financial PowerPoint in a whole-school  assembly which demonstrated to fellow pupils how Bacon Garth spends the money it receives and why it is important for everyone to take care of everything around school to prevent wasting money.

We are proud and very grateful to our pupils who give up much of their spare time to help make our school a better place for everyone and to extend their fellow pupils' understanding not just about our school community but also about other global issues.

Other roles that our year 6 children excel at include house captains, class monitors, litter pickers, recycling monitors, ICT monitors, sports leaders and register monitors.

Members of our School Council are elected by their classmates (two school councillors are elected from each class) and are fundamental in providing a pupil voice within school as representatives of their peers' thoughts and ideas.
